Well well, its tournament time again! Nightmare on 95 rolls out bright and early at 10AM Eastern on Friday ([our preview here][1]). This week we’ll pick the games we know are happening and who we think will advance all the way (sorry, we’ll be watching the games and are not gonna mess with picking each individual match up after round 1). Of course, we encourage everyone to check out the [WFTDA Bracket Game][2] and make picks for the entire tournament on your own if you haven’t already. Watch the entire tournament brought to you by Blaze Streaming Media and the WFTDA here.

Plenty of closely contested derby to keep you intrigued this week. Cincinnati is taking the Pacific North West by storm. While 3 of 4 of us chose Rat City for tonight’s match up, I think it will be close. Naptown heads down to Nashville Saturday to shake the rust off after not playing for 3 months. None of think it will stop them. North Central #1 hosts South Central #1 in what is sure to be a close bout. Throw in a couple more regional match ups and some MRDA play and you have yourself an action packed derby weekend to enjoy.

The 2011 WFTDA Big 5 tournament is just days away, and we are publishing previews of each one, starting with the East Regional “Nightmare on 95“, which takes place in Baltimore, MD on September 16-18. The rest of this week we will publish a preview of each region in the chronological order that matches each event. We have assembled some very observant authors who represent participating teams to provide the analysis, and as always we welcome your thoughts below in the comment section.- RDIT Editors

Previously, we have featured our opinion on the elimination of minor penalties from roller derby rules, and after the WFTDA ran it’s first public test bouts we ran some preliminary opinions. Now, we feature a story on the topic from the perspectives of skaters, both in the game and in the bleachers. This comes from Steel City’s Cruisin’ B. Anthony, a veteran of all three of Steel City’s competitive teams who also happens to be a great writer. We hope this is the first of many contributions to RDIT from her.- RDIT Editors

It’s certainly a lighter weekend but it still doesn’t lack good derby. The Cincy/Steel rematch is certainly not to be missed. Add to that some men’s derby, a trip east for Madison and a weekend in Tennessee for Carolina and you have plenty to look forward to.

Big derby in the works this weekend. Rocky Mountain took a trip to London, four teams are battling it out in the Bay, Boston is doing the tour of the Pacific North West and several other leagues chose this weekend to hit the track. Caesar and SJ think this is the weekend when we will see a North Central team beat Windy City Rollers. Otherwise, this is the weekend to start paying attention to what the playoff teams are looking like as we are just about a month away from the first Big 5 weekend.

This Saturday, Gotham Girls Roller Derby hosts a triple header event in Brooklyn that brings together some of the best women’s and men’s flat track roller derby teams in the nation on the same bill. The event is being broadcast live to the universe via an internet Pay Per View (PPV) stream, at the bargain price of $5.99. Those of you who follow our posts will know that here at RDIT [we are very much in favor of this format of broadcasting live roller derby][1].

It’s all about changing up the regions this weekend as no one is playing within their own region. All but one team on our chart this week will be heading into playoffs. These bouts will give us a sneak peak into what we can expect. And, hey, we even have some spots where we didn’t all choose the same winner. Happy bout watching.

It’s another week of mostly similar choices. Montreal heads to the South Central region, East meets North Central and two West teams battle it out at Roller Con. In MRDA action unranked Cowtow heads to Indianapolis.

“The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club.”
Tyler Durden’s speech in a dank, subterranean basement worked to keep a few dozen followers quiet and in lock step with his vision of the lost, modern man seeking to find himself. There are many organizations that have a code of silence, fraternities, sororities, secret societies, the Freemasons, and others. The main difference between these organizations and the WFTDA is none of these are a sports organization that is trying to market itself internationally. You would think the first rule of WFTDA would be to talk about WFTDA, but that is not the case.

Hot on the heels of our [State of Derby][1] series, we have yet another perspective on how to run a league. This contribution is our first from a derby fan- “Suicide Seats” of North Carolina. We hope this encourages others to contact us about becoming contributors, no matter what your role in the sport is.
