The sun is out and so was I, but I suppose it’s time to check in on the wide world of roller derby. As always, if we missed something please add it in the comments below or contact us with your stories.
- WFTDA wants a dedicated video coverage partner for the Big 5. Maybe this newfangled “internet” thing and your “motion pictures” are gonna take off after all. Funny, we were just thinking the same thing.
- Neil Gaiman attends a roller derby bout. I had to force myself not use an exclamation point there. Most of you probably don’t understand why and most of you should read more.
- University of Utah says derby is dangerous. That’s a pretty crummy recovery rate, kids. Work on your conditioning before you go scrimmaging and find a local sports/orthopedic clinic to work with. For reals.
- Derby photos on Flickr create Best of the Bout. Perhaps I have a different taste in photos, but my “best of” has more shots of me.
- DFW News in Dallas claims derby’s “not just for the ladies.” It’s really just another “oh boy, roller derby is neato” story, but there’s one difference- boys are playing.
- Cincinnati Rollergirls published an “It Gets Better” video. They weren’t referring to their national rankings. But seriously- good video and great PSA.
- Lansing, MI’s Mitten Mavens present at Ignite Lansing 4. If they can explain derby in under 5 minutes, why do official timeouts take so long? Seriously, can’t wait to see a video of this one. If you’re not familiar with Ignite, check it out.
- Law Geeks: Somebody translate the legalese of Roller Derby Names and Norms. I’m sure it’s terribly interesting, but, as I’m sure the Speedbump in Idaho would agree, not worth my time.
