The WFTDA Championships, Uproar on the Lakeshore promised to be a historic event in roller derby, but now it will be one of the most memorable for another reason; this might be the last time we see Suzy Hotrod in a Gotham Girls Roller Derby uniform.

The press release stated [this year’s championships] will be her final game(s) playing for the GGRD All Star team.

RDIT contacted both Suzy Hotrod and

Gotham Girls Roller Derby for comment, both referred us to Gotham’s official press statement on the matter. The press release stated that this weekend would be her final game in New York City for her home team, the Queens of Pain who are playing the Bronx Gridlock for the Gotham Girls Roller Derby 2010 Championship title this Saturday night. Next weekend, will be her final game(s) playing for the GGRD All Star team.

So where will one of the top 10 players in the world be playing roller derby next season? Next season Suzy Hotrod might be skating for the Philly Liberty Belles, as she is moving to Philadelphia. I contacted PRG for comment, to which GM Cycrone replied:

“There has been some very BASIC, PRELIMINARY discussion about the POSSIBILITY of Suzy Hotrod transferring to Philly, POSSIBLY in time for the 2011 season. We have not received any confirmed specifics regarding intended dates of transfer. WFTDA transfer policy calls for a 30-day probationary period for any skater moving between Class A leagues, and of course PRG would follow that policy as we have in the past.”

She was also quick to point out that if Hotrod does play roller derby in Philadelphia, she doesn’t have an automatic spot on the Belles.

“The Philly Roller Girls, in accordance with WFTDA standards, is operated based on basic democratic principles, perhaps even more so than an average league in that we extend this democracy to our All Star rosters. In order to be considered for the vote onto the 20-person Liberty Belles roster, skaters must meet attendance requirements, be current with dues payment and pass A-team level endurance assessment times. All A-eligible skaters vote for the 20 that will represent the league as the Liberty Belles. No one skates onto this roster with ease and every position is hard-fought & defended among our 50-plus PRG skaters. Who wouldn’t want to be a Belle?”

We at Roller Derby Inside Track would like to wish Suzy Hotrod great success in her future endeavors both on and off the track.
